Weir placed 25th in Ballon d'Or as Olid and Cuthbert join Scottish awards shortlist

Caroline Weir was listed 25th in the 2026 Ballon d'Or rankings on 26 October 2026, the same day she was named on the shortlist for the Scottish Women's Football Awards 2026 alongside Erin Cuthbert and Eva Olid.
The 31-year-old Weir, who left Real Madrid for Lyon this summer, is a Ballon d'Or nominee for a second consecutive year and had been ranked 30th 12 months ago. Her inclusion in the national awards coincides with other Scotland internationals receiving nominations across multiple categories.
Weir is among the candidates for Scotland international player of the year alongside Chelsea's Erin Cuthbert, Brann winger Lauren Davidson and striker Kathleen McGovern, who switched from Hibernian to Newcastle United. Those four constitute the short list named for the national player honour.
Glasgow City's Nicole Kozlova, who was named PFA Scotland player of the season in May, is on the ballot for the SWPL 1 player of the year award. The Ukraine international faces three fellow forwards: Celtic's Saoirse Noonan, Rangers' Katie Wilkinson and Georgia Timms, who left Heart of Midlothian for Ipswich Town this summer.
Eva Olid, who led Hearts to their first Scottish Women's Premier League title last season before moving to England's Women's Super League, is shortlisted for SWPL coach of the year. Olid has already been named PFA Scotland manager of the season and is competing against Leanne Crichton, whose Rangers side finished runners-up and currently lead the 2026-27 table, Hibernian's Joelle Murray, and Jack Beesley, who led Spartans back to the top flight.
The winners of the Scottish Women's Football Awards 2026 will be revealed at Hampden Park on 28 November.
