West Ham part company with head coach Nuno Espirito Santo after 14 months

West Ham United have sacked head coach Nuno Espirito Santo on 3 November 2026 after a disappointing start to their EFL Championship season. The 52-year-old had been appointed in September 2025 and leaves the club after 14 months in charge.
Nuno had overseen the Hammers' relegation from the Premier League last season. Widely seen as favourites for automatic promotion, West Ham sit eighth in the Championship, six points behind leaders Middlesbrough. The team have won two of their last six games and suffered successive home defeats, a 3-2 loss to Southampton followed by a 3-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
Assistant head coach Rui Pedro Silva and goalkeeper coach Rui Barbosa have also left the club.
"Following a thorough review of the start to the EFL Championship season, the board of directors believe that a change is necessary at this time in order to ensure that the club's objectives and expectations remain on track," a West Ham United statement read. "West Ham United would like to thank Nuno, Rui and Rui for their hard work and commitment during their time at the Club, and wish them all the very best for the future."
Mark Noble, Steve Potts and Gerard Prenderville will take temporary charge of the side for their Championship trip to Cardiff City on Wednesday night. "The process of recruiting a new head coach is already under way."
