Anish Bhanwala seventh in rapid fire; India closes shooting with 15 medals

Anish Bhanwala finished seventh in the men's 25m rapid fire pistol final in Nagoya at the 2026 Asian Games on October 1, 2026, as India's shooting contingent completed its campaign with 15 medals, including three gold.
India's shooting haul comprised three gold, eight silver and four bronze medals, with trap shooter Neeru Dhanda contributing two gold and a silver to the total; the 15 medals were second only to athletics for India at the ongoing Games.
Anish reached the final through a technical qualification provision rather than a standard top-eight finish: he placed ninth in qualification with a score of 576-17x and advanced because of the Asian Games and ISSF 'two shooters per country policy'.
South Korea had three shooters inside the top eight of qualification, and Song Jong Ho, who finished above Anish, was ineligible to advance under the country quota, which opened the final spot that allowed Anish to progress.
In the medal final Anish hit four out of five at a pivotal stage and finished with 11 hits from 15 shots; although he was tied for the third-best at that point, his lower qualification score meant he lost the tie-break and was eliminated in seventh place out of eight shooters.
The 15 medals won in Nagoya are fewer than India's 22 shooting medals at the 2023 Asian Games in Haghzhou, which remain the country's highest-ever shooting haul at a single edition, making this campaign India's second best medal haul at the continental games.
