On October 13, 2026, Ravichandran Ashwin said Bhuvneshwar Kumar earned selection for India's T20I series against New Zealand after impressing for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Ashwin said Bhuvneshwar concentrated on honing his skills rather than chasing a return to the national side.
Ashwin said he was optimistic about India's prospects in the 2027 ODI World Cup because of “solid bowling assets and seasoned hitters,” and he pointed to South Africa’s strength in understanding local conditions.
