Asian Games 2026: India targets medals in shooting and athletics on September 25 (Day 6)
India will aim to extend its medal haul at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya on Friday, September 25, with key opportunities in shooting and on the athletics track. The sixth day features morning qualification rounds in shooting and a slate of evening finals in athletics at Nagoya.
After five days that produced podium finishes in shooting, cricket, and rowing, the Indian contingent enters an action-packed Day 6 with several events offering direct medal outcomes. The programme includes men's 50m rifle 3 positions and 10m air pistol mixed team in the morning, followed by women's shot put, women's pole vault and the men's 10,000m final in the evening session.
At the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery India will field a trio in the men's 50m rifle 3 positions: Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Rudrankksh Patil and Niraj Kumar, who will compete across kneeling, prone and standing series in the qualification stage. The cumulative scores from qualification will directly determine the medals in the Men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions Team event, and the shooters will aim to place in the top eight to reach the elimination final.
In the 10m air pistol mixed team competition Kamaljeet pairs with Suruchi Inder Singh for the morning qualification rounds. Mixed pistol events demand rapid communication and consistent decimal precision under strict timing; if the Indian duo finish in the top four of qualification they will advance to the medal matches, where they could face teams from China and South Korea.
Evening field events at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium open with the women's shot put final featuring Manpreet Kaur and Krishna Jayasankar Menon. The programme continues with the women's pole vault final, in which Sindhusree Ganesha and Baranica Elangoval will represent India at Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium.
The track programme concludes with the men's 10,000m final, where Hangzhou medallist Gulveer Singh leads India's challenge over 25 laps of the Nagoya track. That race is scheduled to close the evening session for Indian athletes.
