Asian Games 2026: Lovlina into 75kg final as Priya settles for bronze

Lovlina Borgohain sealed a place in the women's 75kg final and Priya Ghanghas took bronze at the Asian Games on Wednesday (September 30, 2026).

Olympic medal-winning boxer Lovlina Borgohain was on target in the semifinals, while 20-year-old Priya, making her Games debut, lost 1-4 to China's Yang Chengyu in a bruising 60kg semifinal bout.

Last edition’s silver-medallist Lovlina eked out a 3-2 split decision win over reigning 70kg world champion Kazakh boxer Natalya Bogdanova in the 75kg semifinal bout.

With the victory, Lovlina becomes the first Indian woman boxer to reach back-to-back Asian Games finals, a result that assures India of at least a silver medal.

Indian boxers have bettered their last edition’s performance, which was one silver and three bronze, by ensuring a six-medal haul at these Games.

Super-heavyweight Narender Berwal signed off with a bronze medal on Tuesday (September 29), and Kapil Pokhariya (90kg) will look to make the gold medal bout later in the day.

Parveen Hooda (65kg) and Ankush Panghal (80kg) have each booked their place in finals that are scheduled for Friday (October 2).

Kapil Pokhariya's bid for a place in the gold-medal contest remains pending later in the competition, and the confirmed finals for Hooda and Panghal are set for Friday (October 2).
