Asian Games 2026: Murali Sreeshankar takes long jump silver, Shi Yuhao gold; David Solomon Patturaj seventh

Murali Sreeshankar won silver in the men's long jump at the Asian Games 2026 on Monday with a best of 8.07m, while David Solomon Patturaj finished seventh with 7.70m.

China’s Shi Yuhao claimed gold with a season-best 8.17m and Uzbekistan’s Anvar Anvarov took bronze with 8.06m; Sreeshankar’s podium finish is his second successive Asian Games silver after an 8.19m effort at the 2023 Hangzhou Games and came as part of his return from injury following a spell that caused him to miss the Paris Olympics.

Sreeshankar opened the final with 7.66m, produced his best mark of 8.07m on his second attempt, recorded 7.56m on his third and then fouled his fourth. He picked up an injury after that fourth jump and was unable to take his final two attempts, but his 8.07m remained sufficient for silver.

David Solomon Patturaj advanced to the final with a qualifying jump of 7.62m and in the final posted 7.54m on his opening attempt before improving to 7.70m on his second, a mark he could not better after a third-round 7.57m, leaving him seventh overall.

India placed two athletes inside the top eight of the men's long jump final, and Sreeshankar added another Asian Games medal to his growing list of international achievements.

India has so far won 19 medals in athletics — nine silvers and 10 bronze — and 45 medals overall at the continental event, comprising 4 gold, 20 silver and 21 bronze.
