Yash Vir Singh and Rohit Yadav win silver and bronze in men’s javelin at Asian Games 2026

Yash Vir Singh and Rohit Yadav claimed silver and bronze for India in the men’s javelin throw at the Asian Games 2026 in Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletics Stadium on Monday, September 28. Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage took gold with a best of 88.55m, while Yash Vir posted a personal best of 85.72m and Rohit recorded 84.35m.

India achieved a two-medal outcome in the event in the absence of Neeraj Chopra, who was ruled out by injury. Yash Vir’s silver was his maiden Asian Games medal and followed the bronze he won at the Commonwealth Games 2026. The result supplied a double podium for India in the javelin final at Nagoya.

Yash Vir opened his Aichi-Nagoya campaign with a throw of 83.56m, followed by 82.99m and 82.42m on his next two attempts. He progressed to 84.31m on his fourth attempt and 85.41m on his fifth before recording a personal-best 85.72m on his sixth and final try to secure second place.

Rohit began with a first-attempt mark of 77.25m and improved to 82.40m on his second attempt. His third effort of 84.35m briefly took him to the top of the leaderboard; he did not better that distance in his remaining three throws and finished third.

Rumesh Pathirage moved ahead of the Indian duo with an 88.33m throw on his fourth attempt and then extended that to 88.55m on his final effort to win gold. The victory followed his gold at the Commonwealth Games 2026 and capped his season with the top podium spot in Nagoya.

The reigning Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan finished fourth with a season-best throw of 80.29m.

India’s athletics contingent has so far won 19 medals at the Asian Games — nine silver and 10 bronze — and the country’s overall tally at the continental event stands at 45 medals: 4 gold, 20 silver and 21 bronze.
