Events where India will defend Asian Games golds in Aichi-Nagoya 2026

India will field a 508-member contingent at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4, with several athletes among the delegation set to defend gold medals they won at Hangzhou 2022.
At the Hangzhou 2022 Games India finished fourth with a record 106 medals, comprising 28 golds, 38 silvers, and 40 bronzes; the 28 golds were the country’s highest-ever haul at the continental tournament, surpassing the 16 golds won at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Games. Shooting supplied seven golds for India, athletics contributed six and archery five.
The Indian archers were a massive success at the Hangzhou Games: Jyothi Surekha and Ojas Deotale clinched gold in the mixed team compound event, and Surekha and Deotale also claimed gold in the compound individual and team events.
In shooting, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar clinched a couple of golds in the men’s 10m air rifle team and men’s 50m rifle three-position team events. The men’s trap team also clinched gold, and four other shooting events produced gold medals for India.
Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy won India’s first badminton gold, taking the men’s doubles title. India’s squash players won gold in mixed doubles and the men’s teams event, while Rohan Bopanna and Rutuja Bhosale combined to win gold in mixed doubles tennis.
On the team-sports front, the Indian men’s and women’s cricket teams won gold in their respective events, and the men’s and women’s kabaddi teams also secured gold medals; the men’s field hockey team won gold as well.
India dominated in athletics at Hangzhou, with Neeraj Chopra and Annu Rani winning the men’s and women’s javelin titles; however, the duo will not be able to defend their titles at the Aichi-Nagoya Games, with the former ruled out due to injury and the latter failing to qualify. Yes, Neeraj Chopra won the men’s javelin throw title, defending his crown from Jakarta-Palembang 2018.
India’s Aichi-Nagoya contingent features several of the country’s biggest sporting stars, who will aim to defend their titles at the Games, which run from September 19 to October 4.
