India announce judo squad, schedule and broadcast plans for Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya
India will field judokas at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, where the multi-sport event runs from September 19 to October 4. The federation has released competition and broadcast details ahead of the Games.
India is one of 46 nations taking part at the Asian Games and arrived in Aichi-Nagoya after a record 106-medal haul at the previous edition in Hangzhou. Historically in judo, India has won five bronze medals — all from the 1986 Seoul and 1994 Hiroshima editions — and has never taken a gold or silver in the sport at the Asian Games.
The Sports Authority of India organised an overseas training stint for the senior judo team at Tsukuba University in Japan, scheduled to run through October 2, with the stated aim of preparing athletes for both the Asian Games and the World Judo Championships in Baku (October 4–11). The camp is intended to let the squad acclimatise in the host country in the final weeks before competition.
Three judokas who trained at Tsukuba are included in India’s Asian Games entry: Asmita Dey (Women’s −48kg), who is identified as a Commonwealth Games 2026 gold medallist, Yamini Mourya (Women’s −57kg) and Takhellambam Inunganbi (Women’s −70kg). These three will represent India in the judo competition at Aichi-Nagoya.
Judo at the Asian Games is scheduled to run from September 30 to October 2 at the Aichi International Arena (IG Arena) in Nagoya, with preliminaries beginning at 11:00 AM and the final block at 5:00 PM each day. The listed preliminary weight categories include Women’s −48kg, −52kg, −57kg, −63kg, −70kg, −78kg and +78kg.
