BCCI postpones IPL stakeholder meeting after PM Modi’s felicitation of athletes on October 15

The BCCI has postponed a meeting with IPL stakeholders that had been scheduled for October 15, 2026, in Mumbai after board officials were invited to a felicitation hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on the same date, Secretary Devajit Saikia said.
The board had convened the meeting for October 15 to discuss matters concerning the IPL, which is set to celebrate its 20th season next year, and Saikia confirmed on Tuesday that the session would not proceed as planned. "The meeting with the IPL Franchise Owners, CEOs, IPL Hosting State Associations and Broadcasters, scheduled to be held on October 15, 2026, in Mumbai, has been postponed," Saikia said in a BCCI statement.
Saikia said the change of schedule follows an invitation for BCCI officials to attend a felicitation ceremony hosted by the prime minister. "The Hon'ble Prime Minister of India is scheduled to felicitate the Indian men's and women's teams for their outstanding performances at the recently concluded 20th Asian Games on October 15, 2026, in New Delhi. Accordingly, BCCI officials will be required to attend the felicitation ceremony."
The secretary added that several stakeholders had approached the Board asking for a new date for the meeting, and that the board had taken those requests into account. "In view of the above, and with a view to facilitating maximum participation in person, it has been decided to postpone the meeting," said Saikia.
Prime Minister Modi is set to host India's Asian Games medallists, cricketers and other sporting achievers at his residence on October 15. The interaction is scheduled for 4:30 pm and will bring together athletes from various disciplines following their achievements on the international stage.
India finished fourth in the overall standings at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, securing 85 medals, including 21 gold. The contingent made a strong recovery in the latter stages of the competition, climbing from eighth to fourth place to equal its position from the previous edition in Hangzhou.
The BCCI secretary said details regarding the rescheduled meeting, including its date and venue, would be announced at a later stage.
